Digital Systems and Software Process Engineer - Expert (Nuclear Sector)
Description
Prepare a comprehensive set of detailed and structured plans, procedures, work instructions, guides, templates, checklists, etc. for governance covering BWRX-300 Plant Level Digital Systems & Software as well as support subsequent plans, procedures, work instructions, guides, templates, checklists, etc. for governance covering subsystems, platforms, and parts. This governance will be in alignment with applicable nuclear IEC Standards covering 4 levels; Safety Class 1, 2, 3 and None that are informed by the characteristics of specific implementing technologies and product architectures. Additional regulations and standards will be utilized as required by technical leadership.
Responsibilities
- Work with the team as assigned by technical leadership to contribute to the preparation of a comprehensive set of detailed and structured plans, procedures, work instructions, guides, templates, checklists, etc. for controllership or governance covering Digital Systems, Software, and Cyber plus their parts, digital tools, and digital instrumentation devices that include software.
Prepare governance documentation based on applicable IEC Standards related to the nuclear industry which cover 4 levels; Safety Class 1, 2, 3 and None while concurrently enveloping requirements from other specific national nuclear regulators (e.g.; CNSC, NRC) and their referenced standards [e.g.; CSA, IEEE).
Prepare governance documentation informed by the characteristics of specific implementing technologies and selected original equipment manufacturer (OEM) product architectures.
Collaborate closely with subject matter experts (SMEs) to understand the vision, strategy, plan, mission goals, and success criteria for governance documentation.
Collaborate closely with centralized. Technical Writing and Configuration Management teams to ensure appropriate use of templates, styles, and issuance workflow tools.
Use technical writing techniques that are applicable to this scope and that are informed by best practices from nuclear or related heavily regulated industries.
Embrace the role of Responsible Engineer (RE) which includes the management of your assigned document reviews/comments, dispositions, and incorporation process in a collaborative and risk informed, graded approach to rigor and objective evidence preservation on time and on budget.
Maintain rigorous document configuration management and change control process including a risk informed, graded approach to requirements management and traceability.
Prepare training, marketing, and educational materials of the governance procedures, guides, templates, checklists, etc. for a diverse audience including licensees and regulators.
Participate in and be accountable for work scope definition, labor budget, on-time schedule performance, and high-quality durable documents.
Work shall be performed compliant with GEH Quality Assurance Program (QAP).
Qualifications
- Bachelor's in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Nuclear, or Computer Science or Technology Engineering or equivalent.
15 year experience with applying regulations, standards, procedures, & tools to create/modify Plant I&C Systems, Hardware, and Software Design Process governance in nuclear power plant, fuel manufacturing, or test facility environments.
10 year experience preparing design basis requirements and specifications as well as subsequent nuclear documentation for reactor designs, modifications, or maintenance for new or operating plants.
10 year experience with global nuclear regulator or association rules, guides, relevant good practice positions, technical process methodology reports as well as their referenced industry standards particularly the IEC Standard 61000 series.
7 year experience with architecting, developing or preparing or writing, implementing, and using detailed and structured plans, procedures, work instructions, guides, templates, checklists, etc. for digital systems hardware and software development lifecycle for computer based safety instrumented systems (SIS) in the nuclear, power, process, marine, medical, pharmaceutical, aerospace, military, national energy laboratory, or related life safety related industries.
7 year experience with diverse digital computer based systems hardware and software technology stacks such as
a. Hardware; special purpose micro-controllers, or processors (uP), programmable logic devices
b. (PLD), or field programmable gate array (FPGA),
c. Software; real time operating systems (RTOS), drivers or utilities, application specific programs realized in custom software, firmware, or blockware, and
d. Tools; compliers, programming language specific code convention or standards checkers, cyber security scanners, or configurators.
7 year experience with various digital safety systems architectures used to define a specific implementing platform from an OEM such as; TELEPERM XS/Siemens now Framatome, Splineline/Rolls-Royce now Framatome, RadICS/ Radiy, Common Q/Westinghouse, TRICON/Triconex, Invensys, Schneider now Framatome.
7 year experience using Microsoft Office at an expert level.
5 year experience with technical writing with focus on plans, procedure, and guides.
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills in a complex environment.
Excellent communication, documentation, and presentation skills, written, graphical, and verbal.
Strong interpersonal skills, collaborative mindset, and ability to work in a creative, diverse, dynamic team environment.
Additional Desired Characteristics
- Master's in Bachelor's in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Nuclear, or Computer Science or Technology Engineering or equivalent such as two Bachelor's degrees.
Experience with hands on practical knowledge in equipment qualification, commercial grade dedication, testing, and system commissioning.
Author or Co-Author of technical papers and presentations to international nuclear regulators or agencies or associations thereof (e.g.; IAEA, NRC, ONR, WNA CORDEL MDEP DI&C] as well as industry standards committees or technical working groups (TWG) thereof (e.g.; ANS, EPRI, IEC, IEEE, ISA, NEI].
Experience as featured speaker or host of Technical Working Groups presenting to nuclear regulators or industry association related to I&C topics related to design certification or licensing.
Experience performing as an independent technical services organization (TSO) SME auditor, consultant, or trainer of the I&C scope for regulators, licensees, or OEM suppliers.
